A stunningly good example of a 17th century Dueling rapier from a private UK collection, in museum condition, the blade marked to the famous Wundes, Solingen sword cutler family.
The flattened diamond section blade measures 104.75cm and is incised JOHANNES WUNDES SOLINGEN in the short central fullers on either side, including an anchor mark.
It has a characteristic dish-hilt, chiselled and pierced with flowerheads and with scalloped rim, square section slender quillons with scroll terminals and with two scroll supports.
There is a wire bound grip with Turk's heads and a reeded pear-shaped pommel. Private Collection disc number 24.
