I offer for sale a very nice Napoleonic, British, P.1796 light cavalry officer's sabre together with it's steel scabbard, by cutler Thomas Gill of Jennons Row and Masshouse Lane, Bartholomew Chapel, Birmingham. The 32.5 inch frost etched blade bears the inscription Tho. Gill - "Warranted Never to Fail" and is dated "1798" along with numerous decoration including, geometric and floral motifs; a GR cypher; Royal coat of arms; hussar or dragoon; Britannia; an Angel; a pavilion and curtains; and a stand of arms. Sword and scabbard in very good condition with the hilt still retaining it's original browning. Some discolouration and black oxidization to blade surface as is to be expected for a service weapon 222 years old. Blade nice and tight with the hilt. Just one blade-to-blade nick to the back edge of the blade near the tip. The blade retains it's service edge
The sword has been in the same family for generations.
