A stunningly beautiful, Oil on wooden panel, attributed to famous, listed, in the style of Belgian artist - Eugene Joseph Verboeckhoven (1790 - 1881), entitled "Cattle at Sunset". It depicts a fine panoramic landscape with cattle resting at sunset and a townscape beyond, painted around 1850.Verboeckhoven was a superb painter of animals and very meticulous in his preparation, making hundreds of sketches and studies on the spot before committing them to his landscapes. Like the Old Masters he obtained the colour blue for his skies by grinding down Lapis Lazuli.He was a prolific painter and exhibited regularly at the Ghent and Brussels salons. He visited and painted in the Ardennes, France, Great Britain, Germany and Italy. He was a member of the art academies of Brussels, Ghent, Antwerp, St. Petersburg and Amsterdam. This fine painting is in Gallery condition and measures 24" by 20" framed in a fine, heavy, gilt frame (possibly it's original gallery frame). Ready to hang.
