I offer for sale, a very rare, British, George VI era, Royal Air Force Officer's Dress sword by Reeves, dating to around 1940(?) You won't see many of these models of swords on the market today, I have not encountered any others.

This sword is in very nice overall condition with all of the gilt covering to the bronze, on the sword half-basket hilt intact. There is only the tiniest amount of lateral movement between the blade and the hilt, only 1mm if that. The only other damage to the hilt is a very small amount of Shagreen loss to the top of one side of the grip (hardly noticeable).

The hilt guard is pierced with lovely patches of floral decoration and the crowned monogram of "GR VI" is present also. Within a raised oval cartouche is seen a crowned RAF Eagle with spread wings. The backstrap and pommel consist of a lovely gilt, cast/chiselled Eagle's head.

The deep single fullered straight blade measures 32 1/2 inches (or 82.5 cm) in length and is undamaged, retaining most of its original polish. Etched into one side of the blade is a crowned R.A.F. Eagle with spread wings and on the other side the British Royal Coat of Arms for King George VI. The cartouches are left blank. There is some floral etched decoration and a Proof Slug at the blade forte, bearing a fleur-de-lys motif, which to my understanding will be for Reeves, a premier cutler to the British military. Just the tiniest amount of scuff, and tarnish where the sword has sat in its leather scabbard over time.

This sword comes complete with its wooden, leather-covered scabbard, which is fitted with banded, gilt bronze, decorative, sword mounts/chape. There is a tiny bit of movement in the scabbard chape, and the scabbard throat gilt is slightly rubbed to one side (showing the use of this sword). Otherwise, just the odd scuff to the leather and in very good overall condition.

The RAF sword knot or Portepee is present and in very reasonable condition.
